Lessons are offered for students ages 5–18.
Instruction is available for:
Beginning through advanced piano
Organ (students already play piano proficiently)
Beginning flute
Beginning to intermediate voice
Beginning piano students primarily use the Faber Piano Adventures series, which provides a strong foundation in note reading, rhythm, technique, theory, and musicianship.
Beginning flute students primarily use Trevor Wye’s Beginner’s Book for the Flute and Rubank method books to develop proper tone, breath support, technique, note reading, and musicality.
Vocal students receive individualized instruction focused on developing healthy vocal technique, pitch, breath support, diction, musical expression, and performance skills. Repertoire is selected according to the student's age, ability, interests, and goals.
As students progress, lessons become increasingly individualized based on each student's age, experience, goals, and interests. Instruction may include:
Classical and contemporary repertoire
Music theory
Sight-reading and sight-singing
Technique and exercises
Hanon exercises
Major and minor scales
Chord progressions
Hymn playing and accompanying
Performance and festival preparation
Musical expression and interpretation
30-minute lessons once a week are recommended for most elementary and middle school students.
45-minute lessons once a week are reserved primarily for advanced middle school and high school students.
Tuition is billed monthly and includes weekly lessons, studio events, and recital participation.
Current tuition:
30-minute lesson: $120/month (recommended for most elementary and middle school students)
45-minute lesson: $180/month (reserved primarily for advance middle school and high school students)
Tuition reserves your student's place in the studio and is not based solely on attendance.
Beutler Music Studio operates for 48 instructional weeks each year, with four weeks reserved for teacher vacation—typically two weeks during the summer and two weeks around Christmas. Tuition is divided into 12 equal monthly payments rather than being based on the number of lessons in a particular calendar month. Therefore, tuition will not be adjusted during months when studio vacation occurs. Specific vacation dates may vary from year to year according to my family's schedule and will be communicated in advance.
Families who wish to discontinue lessons are asked to provide at least 30 days' notice. Tuition remains due during the notice period.
A $50 annual music fee is due at the beginning of each school year (or at the time of the first class if your student begins mid semester).
This covers:
Method books
Lesson materials
Sheet music
Studio supplies
Music copies
Parents do not need to purchase curriculum books separately unless requested for special repertoire.
Students are expected to attend their scheduled lesson each week. In the rare event that illness or other unavoidable conflicts arise, I do offer makeup lessons as scheduling permits. I do not offer makeup lessons for missed makeup lessons or group lessons. Missed lessons are not refunded.
As enrollment grows, approximately one lesson each month will become a group lesson.
Group lessons allow students to:
Perform for one another
Learn music theory
Play rhythm games
Practice ear training
Explore ensemble playing
Build confidence
Monthly tuition remains unchanged during group lesson months.
Consistent practice is the key to success.
Students are encouraged to practice:
Beginners: 15–20 minutes daily
Intermediate: 30–45 minutes daily
Advanced: 45–60+ minutes daily
Quality practice is more important than simply spending time at the piano.
Students who are ready are encouraged to participate in Virginia Music Teachers Association festivals, including:
Solo Festival
Concerto Festival
Participation is recommended but not required.
There are 2 recitals a year, Spring, and Christmas recitals. Recitals require months of preparation. Please make recitals a priority in your schedule. It is not required that students perform in recitals, but highly encouraged. Performing is a great opportunity for students to develop confidence in their musical abilities and self-presentation.
Parents can help students succeed by:
Encouraging regular practice
Arriving on time and picking up on time
Providing a quiet practice environment
Celebrating effort and progress
Parents are encouraged to attend their student’s lessons if the student is younger than 8 years old or if the parent has little to no music instruction. When attending a lesson please do not bring other children with you or talk on the phone. Students often need parental support at home to help facilitate practicing. Practice requirements will be specified in their notebook. Please communicate any concerns promptly and respectfully.
As your teacher, I promise to:
Prepare engaging lessons
Teach with patience and encouragement
Challenge each student appropriately
Foster a love of music
Communicate openly with families
Continue my own professional development
Thank you for letting me be a part of your student’s musical journey!
I look forward to working with your family!
